01 / The experience

K1 Speed Austin · indoor kart racing

The lap time is yours to chase at K1 Speed. This North Austin indoor circuit puts electric karts through an 11-turn course, with tight hairpins demanding a different approach from the faster sweepers. It is a chance to work on the braking points and lines you have been watching at COTA, then return for another attempt.

Adult and junior karts give families a way into the activity, although the two groups race in different sessions. For friends travelling together, the individual lap records make a more meaningful contest than simply buying the same number of races. The Paddock Lounge and arcade provide something to do between turns on track.

K1 is a useful hands-on addition to this particular trip because COTA’s karting is closed throughout Grand Prix week. A Tuesday afternoon or an extra day after the race gives it more breathing room than a dash north after a circuit concert. Ordinary race purchases join the walk-in queue; a prepaid package does not secure a starting time.
