Founded 1571. Founded in 1571 by Queen Elizabeth I at the petition of Welsh clergyman Hugh Price, who provided the endowment, and long associated with Wales.

Elizabethan and Jacobean, with two 16th–17th-century quads, a chapel, and a Hall displaying portraits including Elizabeth I; the frontage is on Turl Street.
