Why this page exists
Every place on this guide is researched from primary sources and carries a source register. In Monaco, that process kept turning up the same thing: the published web is confidently wrong, and the wrong version is still ranking.
Most of these errors were accurate when they were written. A page that said the Jardin Exotique was closed was correct for six years. That is precisely what makes them hard to spot — nothing about them looks careless.
Each entry below traces to a specific research bundle on this site, where the sourcing is set out in full.
Reopened — and much of the web has not noticed
- ReopenedJardin Exotique de Monaco
- Reopened 30 March 2026, after being closed since 2020. The web is wrong in two directions here: material published between 2020 and early 2026 says it is closed, and material published before 2020 gives prices, paths and facilities that no longer apply. Both are still ranking.
- ReopenedMuseum of Old Monaco
- Reopened in March 2026, in the presence of Prince Albert II, after several years of renovation. Very little English-language coverage reflects this. We have not been able to reconfirm the admission price since the reopening, so this guide does not publish one.
Closed — and still listed as open
- ClosedJardin Animalier (Rainier III Zoological Garden)
- Closed for all of 2026, for cliff-safety consolidation and a modernisation ordered by Prince Albert II — described as its most ambitious transformation since it was created. Reopening is expected in 2027. This is the most consequential closure for families, and the great majority of listings still show it open with hours and prices.
- ClosedNaval Museum (Musée Naval de Monaco)
- Closed for refurbishment for an indefinite period, and under the planned restructuring of the Terrasses de Fontvieille it must also leave the site. No relocation has been confirmed. Its English Wikipedia article, recently edited, makes no mention of any closure.
- ClosedNouveau Musée National de Monaco — Villa Sauber
- The museum has two villas and only one is open. Villa Paloma is operating; Villa Sauber is closed for renovation and extension with no published reopening date. A great many listings still present the NMNM as two visitable venues.
If you are planning around any of these, check the venue’s own site on the day. We recheck this page on the cadence set in each bundle, but a closure can change between checks.
Moved
- MovedThe Prince’s Car Collection
- Moved in July 2022, after nearly thirty years at the Terrasses de Fontvieille, to 54 route de la Piscine at Port Hercule in La Condamine. Maps, guides and listings still place it in Fontvieille — including, until we corrected them, older records in this project.
Open, but not in the way listings imply
- Check firstGrimaldi Forum
- The building operates normally, but it has no opening hours of its own. It is a venue, not an attraction: hours belong to whatever event is running, and between events much of it is closed to the public. Any source quoting "the Grimaldi Forum’s opening times" is describing whatever happened to be on when it was written.
Claims the web repeats that we could not stand up
These are not closures. They are facts in wide circulation that do not trace to the institution they are attributed to.
- Check firstA combined Palace + Jardin Exotique ticket
- There is no such ticket, despite the claim being widely repeated. The garden’s tariff order pairs it with the Oceanographic Museum and nothing else.
- Check firstThe Salle Garnier seats 524
- This figure is everywhere and does not come from the opera house. Its own published figures are 517 with the orchestra pit in use and 569 without, plus 66 places in boxes and balconies.
How we handle this
We do not publish prices or opening hours for anything whose status we cannot verify, and we would rather leave a gap than fill it with a plausible number. Where sources disagree, the disagreement is recorded rather than resolved by picking one.

The verdict
Monaco is small enough that one closed museum reshapes an afternoon. Two of its attractions came back this year and three are shut while the internet insists otherwise — so if a listing looks confident about a Monaco opening time, check the date on it before you plan around it.
