Monaco and the French Riviera during Grand Prix week

Access changes the plan

A ticket and no ticket
are different weekends.

Monaco has no general admission. A no-ticket day is not a cheaper version of a grandstand day; it needs a different place to watch, a different arrival time and a deliberate journey home.

Your seat is the fixed anchor.

Qualifying day, from the harbour

The most compressed day of the weekend. One hard anchor in the afternoon, and everything else arranged around getting to it early and getting out of it slowly.

  1. 01
    Breakfast away from the circuit

The harbour side wakes up early on qualifying day. Eat before the streets fill.

  2. 02
Walk the lower circuit while it is open

Follow the harbour stretch on foot and see the barriers from the outside before anything runs.

  3. 03
    12:30 · provisionalThird practice

Third practice. Useful for finding your seat and testing how long the walk really takes.

  4. 04
    Long lunch, sitting down

The gap between practice and qualifying is the only real pause in the day.

  5. 05
    16:00 · provisionalQualifying

Be in position well before the pit lane opens. This is the session that decides the race here.

  6. 06
    Stay put for the dispersal

Everyone leaves at once and the exits are narrow. Half an hour in a bar beats half an hour in a queue.

Crossing points are edition-specific and are not published for 2027 — do not plan on crossing the circuit at a particular place.

Race day, in your seat early

The day everything is constrained. Get in early, accept you are staying in, and plan the evening around a slow exit.

  1. 01
    Eat properly, early

Once you are in, your options narrow to whatever is inside.

  2. 02
Into position before the support races

The support programme fills the morning and the crowd builds through it.

  3. 03
    15:00 · provisionalRace

The race. Grid position matters more here than almost anywhere, so the start is worth being early for.

  4. 04
    Wait out the dispersal deliberately

The whole principality leaves at once. Pick somewhere to be for an hour rather than joining it.

  5. 05
    Evening on foot

Nothing that needs a road, a taxi or a timetable.

Road closures and reopening times are not published for 2027.

Your viewing place and return journey become the anchors.

Race day from the rail corridor

Designed backwards from the journey home, because that is the part that goes wrong. Without a ticket the day is about being in the city, not in a grandstand.

  1. 01
    Get above the circuit

The ground rises steeply behind the town; the higher ground is where the view is free and legal.

  2. 02
Find a screen and a seat by mid-morning

Without a grandstand seat the useful plan is somewhere with a view of a screen and space to stand.

  3. 03
    15:00 · provisionalRace

The race. Expect to be standing, and expect the good spots to have gone early.

  4. 04
Do not go straight to the station

The post-race platform is the single worst place to be. Let it clear.

  5. 05
Later train back along the coast

Check the last departure for the day before you travel; race-week services are not published for 2027.

Special race-week rail services and last departures are not published for 2027.

A general-admission view is not guaranteed anywhere — nothing on this page promises one.

Practice day · No ticket assumed

Practice day, the cheap way in

The most relaxed day of the weekend and the best value: the cars run, the city still works, and the crowd is a fraction of Sunday’s.

  1. 01
Walk the districts before the first session

The Rock, the port and the casino terrace are all walkable, with the public lifts doing the climbing.

  2. 02
    13:30 · provisionalFirst practice

First practice. The quietest chance to hear the cars on these streets.

  3. 03
    Lunch, then the harbour

The gap between the two practice sessions is long enough to do something with.

  4. 04
    17:00 · provisionalSecond practice

    Second practice, late afternoon.

  5. 05
    Out before the evening

Friday disperses far more gently than Sunday, but the trains still fill.

Ordinary-day walking routes are not a guide to what is open while the circuit is live.
