MGM Grand
A large resort with rooms, restaurants and a Monorail station, useful for visitors who want to combine a resort base with rail journeys.
01 / The stay
A useful family base with rail and an evening's entertainment
The station requires an internal hotel walk and does not by itself provide access to every race ticket zone.
MGM Grand has enough on its own campus to support a holiday around the race. KÀ gives you a substantial show to build a free evening around, while the restaurant collection includes Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak, Morimoto and more casual alternatives. That breadth is useful for families and mixed-interest groups: not every meal needs the same budget or level of ceremony.
Avenue Café is a practical breakfast-and-lunch option, with booths, made-to-order omelettes and sandwiches. The food court covers a different need, including pizza, hot dogs and other quick meals. It is a helpful combination before an afternoon departure or after a late return, provided you distinguish the overall food-court opening from the hours of a particular counter.
For a special meal, Joël Robuchon offers an entirely different evening from the food court. Its Art Deco townhouse-style dining room and garden terrace frame elaborate cooking such as Le Caviar Impérial, combining caviar, crab, a crustacean gelée and cauliflower purée. This is the dinner to reserve for a free night when the meal itself is the occasion. Having it in your own resort makes the start and end of that evening straightforward.
For racing, the Monorail station is one of the hotel's strongest advantages. There are approaches through The Underground and The District, so the route from your particular room matters. Rail can avoid part of the road-closure problem, but the station at the other end still leaves a walk to your permitted entrance. It is a useful transport option rather than a door-to-seat shuttle.
The scale is also the principal trade-off. This is a substantial resort with indoor distances to restaurants, pickup areas and the station. It suits visitors who will use those facilities and are comfortable with that environment. A compact non-gaming hotel serves a different preference. MGM Grand is worth choosing for the combination of a varied meal plan, family entertainment and rail access, with enough daytime flexibility to enjoy the resort rather than simply rush through it on the way to the train.
