O
Cirque du Soleil’s Bellagio water production, combining divers, artistic swimmers, aerial acts and theatrical characters.
01 / The experience
Water, acrobatics and a theatre built around both.
In “O”, the stage can be a place to stand, a surface to move across and a pool deep enough for a diver to disappear into. That changing relationship between performers and water is the reason to choose this Cirque du Soleil production at Bellagio. It gives the show a scale and a physical vocabulary that a conventional theatre stage cannot offer.
The story follows Philemon, a young Sicilian boy, into an imagined world. You do not need to follow every character to enjoy the performances, but the figures give the evening more shape than a succession of unrelated circus acts. Le Vieux, the mischievous Zebras and the seemingly oblivious L’Allumé belong to the same strange theatrical landscape. The title itself plays on eau, the French word for water.
Some of the most memorable contrasts come from what happens above the pool. A suspended boat becomes an acrobatic setting; other performers balance, climb or launch themselves from elevated apparatus. In the Island Banquine number, the focus is human strength and precision. Russian swings create another sort of motion, with the water below making the scale of the leaps immediately clear. Artistic swimmers connect the aerial work to what is happening at the surface.
Fire appears too. L’Allumé and the fire-mask character bring another element into a production otherwise defined by water. Those changes keep the visual world moving between intimate comic moments and much larger group scenes. If your party includes someone who prefers music and physical performance to dialogue-heavy theatre, “O” is a strong option for a shared evening.
The theatre's scale makes seating a real choice. A closer position puts performers and splashes more directly in front of you; a more elevated view can help you read the movement across the water. Use the actual seating plan and any seat-specific notices when comparing prices. Paying more should buy the perspective you want, rather than simply the nearest available row. Accessible locations and companion seats need to be selected as seats, not improvised after arriving.
“O” works particularly well with an early dinner inside Bellagio, provided the meal ends with time to find the theatre and take your seats. It is a complete 90-minute show without an interval, so avoid treating it as something you can partly attend before heading to the circuit. For families, the minimum age is five, but loud sound and darkness are still part of the experience. A child who is technically old enough may prefer a less intense outing.
For an F1 trip, choose a performance on a free evening or during an extension to your stay. The spectacular water stage is worth seeing from start to finish, and a late race session is a poor reason to cut it short.

04Which seats should I choose?
Choose between a close view of performers and a broader view of the water stage, using the official seat map and any splash or sightline notices.
