Red Rock Canyon NCA
Spend a free morning among Red Rock Canyon’s sandstone scenery. Reserve Scenic Drive entry when required and allow time to return before racing.
01 / The experience
Choose a scenic drive or a walking day.
Red Rock Canyon gives you a desert outing that can be shaped around scenery rather than speed. The paved, one-way Scenic Drive runs for 13 miles past sandstone formations, with pull-outs and trailheads along the route. Choose a drive with a few stops or give a named walking route its own time.
The visitor centre is a useful first stop. Its indoor and outdoor exhibits explain the Mojave through earth, air, fire and water, with geology and desert wildlife among the themes. The facilities offer a more accessible way to engage with the landscape than assuming every trail is suitable.
For a luxury trip, a dedicated driver can keep the return straightforward, but a commercial tour has its own permissions and admission arrangements. Keep this as a daylight outing. Adding an ambitious hike changes the duration and preparation completely.
