01 The experience
What to expect.
Make this your main Singapore art visit. The Gallery connects City Hall and the former Supreme Court, giving you grand civic rooms, contemporary museum spaces and a substantial collection visit in one morning.
Choose art, architecture or both
For art, begin with Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours in Art in the DBS Singapore Gallery. Paintings, installations and visual culture explore changing ideas of home, work and identity from the 19th century onwards. General admission covers this exhibition.
For architecture, join Building Highlights, a free tour of about an hour. It connects the buildings’ history with the transformation that made them a gallery. An admission ticket is not required, but you must register early and places are limited.
Allow two to three hours if you want both. On 9–11 October, arrive at opening and use the Coleman Street entrance. The UOB Southeast Asia Gallery is closed until late 2027, so build your visit around the exhibitions that are open.
Look closer
Highlights worth your time.
The strongest reasons to include this place in your plans.Singapore Stories
Explore the DBS Singapore Gallery’s story of Singapore through art. The display brings together established figures such as Georgette Chen and Liu Kang with different media and perspectives, allowing a deeper sense of the city than a quick landmark photograph.
The buildings behind the art
Building Highlights takes in spaces such as the City Hall Chamber, Singapore Courtyard and former Supreme Court holding cells, according to the day’s route. Register for the tour rather than assuming you can enter every room independently.
A shorter free visit
Make the architecture tour your main experience if you have an hour and do not want a full art visit. The Gallery also lists non-ticketed areas, including the ArchiGallery, but opening and access can vary by space. Ask visitor services for a focused route.
Keep the weekend workable
An opening-time visit gives you an indoor cultural morning before the evening racing. Roof decks and windows are not a substitute for a race ticket or a guaranteed viewing position.
