A historic return to Sepang under the Bahrain Grand Prix banner.
Formula 1 returns to the beloved layout of Sepang International Circuit under the Bahrain Grand Prix banner. Witness high-speed slipstreaming down parallel straights with 2026 active aero, weigh the choice between staying in vibrant Kuala Lumpur and basing near KLIA airport, and navigate the tropical elements with confidence.
In a remarkable twist for the 2026 calendar, Formula 1 returns to the beloved layout of Sepang International Circuit under the relocated Bahrain Grand Prix banner. Built by Hermann Tilke in 1999, Sepang was the prototype for modern F1 circuits, renowned for its wide sweeping corners, demanding medium-speed complexes, and twin parallel straights that encourage dramatic late-braking overtakes.
For traveling fans, the primary logistical decision is the 50-kilometer distance between downtown Kuala Lumpur and the circuit. Sepang sits adjacent to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in rural Selangor. Attendees must weigh the buzz of staying in central KL (Bukit Bintang, KLCC)—with its world-class dining, rooftop bars, and an hour-long daily commute—against the pure convenience of staying at airport-side hotels just 15 minutes from the circuit gates.
Use the latest official updates to plan your trip: the six-journey KLIA Ekspres pass and complimentary T2 shuttle, channel-specific ticket availability, the full Formula Trophy Malaysia programme and Fan Zone entertainment. Leave room for wet weather and the night markets of Jalan Alor.

Sunday exit: western taxi rank, not the main entranceThe published Grand Prix window ends at 17:00 Malaysia time on 4 October, subject to delays. For return taxis, follow signs west of the Welcome Centre to the rank beside the Go Kart / Concert Area near PA1/P1. Confirm Grab pickup with your driver. Keep a generous exit buffer before any train or flight connection.
Arrange your return transfer in advance where possible, or keep the official shuttle as an alternative to an on-demand Grab booking. Leave plenty of time for walking out, shuttle queues and road traffic. Avoid a tight onward flight connection.
- For a taxi, use the western rank beside the Go Kart / Concert Area, west of the Welcome Centre near PA1/P1. Only public taxis, Grab and Limousine KLIA may travel directly to the venue; other private-hire services are not permitted.

Gates open at 09:00 on 2–4 October 2026. Friday closes at 18:00 and Saturday at 20:30. Sunday opens six hours before the 15:00 Grand Prix, but the final public closing time has not been published. Thursday access is 14:30–16:30 for Pit Lane Walk ticket holders only. All times are local to Malaysia (UTC+8).
Can I bring a water bottle or outside food to Sepang F1?
No. The final official booklet prohibits water bottles and all outside food and beverages. Leave sealed and refillable bottles behind and buy refreshments after entry.
What bags and cameras can I take into Sepang Circuit?
Oversized bags and professional cameras are prohibited, but the final booklet does not publish a numerical bag-size or lens-length limit. Pack a compact day bag and use a phone or compact personal camera. Selfie sticks, tripods and professional audio/video equipment are prohibited.
Where are the numbered spectator gates at Sepang?
The official 2026 venue map confirms gates 1–8 around the perimeter: 1 by the western Concert Area and Welcome Centre approach; 2 near P2/P3; 3 near P4; 4 near P5/P6; 5 near P8; 6 near P12; 7 near P14/P15 and F Grandstand; 8 near P17 and G Hillstand. Use your ticket’s designated gate. These numbers are separate from internal shuttle stops.
Where is Bahrain Village at Sepang?
Bahrain Village is in the Mall Area. Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority brings traditional crafts, cultural demonstrations, games, music and Bahraini food to the venue. The race-week page now lists the published daily performance times.
Why is the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix being held at Sepang in Malaysia?
The original April Bahrain Grand Prix did not take place. Formula 1 and the FIA subsequently agreed with Bahrain and Malaysia to stage the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit on 2–4 October 2026. The race retains the Bahrain Grand Prix identity while being held in Malaysia.
How much do Sepang F1 2026 tickets cost?
BIC’s international three-day table lists Main Grandstand at USD565.40 and K2 Hillstand and B General Admission at USD220; K1, F and C are sold out in that allocation. In the separate MyKad table, C is sold out while Main, K1, K2, F, B and G still display prices. MyKad rates require Malaysian-citizen eligibility.
Is it better to stay in Kuala Lumpur or near KLIA Airport for Sepang F1?
KL Sentral is convenient for the RM200 six-journey race train pass to KLIA T2 and the separate complimentary circuit shuttle. Other central KL areas add dining and nightlife with another connection to the rail hub. KLIA hotels reduce city travel, but confirm access to the T2 boarding point and your return journey.
Which grandstand is best at Sepang International Circuit?
The Main Grandstand (North & South) is the premier choice, offering covered roof shelter from extreme tropical heat and rain, with simultaneous views across two straights. Grandstand K1 is the best pick for overtaking duels into Turn 1.
What is the best way to get from central Kuala Lumpur to Sepang Circuit?
Take KLIA Ekspres from KL Sentral to KLIA T2, about 33 minutes by train, then the separate complimentary official shuttle to SIC. The RM200 race pass provides six rail journeys during 2–4 October. Board at the Level 1 Transportation Hub / Express Bus Terminal. Rapid KL / SIC shuttles run approximately every 10–15 minutes, 07:00–00:00 on 2–4 October, and accept race spectators arriving at T2 by any mode. Standard KLIA Transit tickets are generally better value from Putrajaya & Cyberjaya or for one / two race days.
Where are the official Sepang race shuttle hubs?
Mitsui Outlet Park, KLIA Terminal 2, KLIA Long-Term Car Park and Bandar Baru Enstek (Persiaran Millenia 2). All four operate 07:00–00:00 on 2–4 October 2026 for all race ticket holders, with parking available. Only the KLIA T2 route is confirmed complimentary; other shuttle fares are not published.
Can I drive to Sepang Circuit without a parking pass?
No. Cars without a parking pass are not permitted in the circuit vicinity. One pass per customer can be bought, valid for all three days. Collect it at the BIC stand at Mitsui Outlet Park using your emailed instructions, or park at a shuttle hub instead.
How should you prepare for the tropical heat and rain at Sepang?
Plan for heat, humidity and tropical downpours. Pack breathable clothing, a compact rain poncho and waterproof bags for electronics. Long umbrellas are prohibited, as are water bottles and all outside food and drink. Covered grandstands do not shelter every walk or queue; follow marshals’ instructions during storms.
Where do I get a taxi or Grab after the Sepang Grand Prix?
The official taxi rank is on the western side of the circuit beside the Go Kart / Concert Area, west of the Welcome Centre near PA1/P1. Direct circuit access is limited to public taxis, Grab and Limousine KLIA; other private-hire services are not permitted. Allow for queues and road traffic; main-entrance drop-off is not the return taxi rank.
Can I pay by international card or DuitNow QR at Sepang food stalls?
Payment methods have not been confirmed for every circuit vendor. Bring a modest MYR cash backup and a payment card, ask before ordering, and check whether your own bank or wallet supports the displayed QR payment method.
Can spectators walk on the track after the race at Sepang?
Post-race track access is not confirmed in the current 2026 spectator information. Follow the organiser’s final instructions and marshals on the day; do not rely on arrangements from earlier editions.
