01 / The experience
A monument experienced from within.
The Eiffel Tower changes character as soon as the visit moves beneath its iron structure. From a distance it is a silhouette; inside, the beams, rivets, platforms and lift routes make its engineering part of the experience. Built for the 1889 World's Fair, it remains both a working visitor attraction and a particularly visible piece of nineteenth-century construction.
First floor, second floor or summit
The floors offer different kinds of visit. The first level brings the structure close, with a glass-floor section that changes the view down towards the ground. The second floor opens a wider panorama across the Seine and the city, while still keeping the tower's framework around the visitor. The summit is a further stage, with its own lift journey and a more elevated outlook.
That makes the destination on the ticket a real choice. A second-floor visit is a complete experience of its own, especially for visitors interested in the structure and the closer city views. The summit adds a different perspective and the preserved setting of Gustave Eiffel's office. Access can depend on operating and weather conditions, so the higher level is not simply an unrestricted continuation of every ticket.
Stairs, lifts and dining inside the tower
Stairs offer another relationship with the monument on the route to the second floor, while lift access makes the journey more contained. The actual access product determines which of these is included. Security screening and the internal queues are part of reaching the platforms, separate from the walk to the site.
Food has several forms within the tower, from takeaway options to the restaurants on its levels. Le Jules Verne on the second floor is a distinct dining visit with its own arrival and booking conditions. For an ordinary tower visit, the enduring appeal is the sequence itself: seeing the construction from below, moving through it and then watching the city spread out beyond the ironwork.

Eiffel Tower: frequently asked questions
01Can I upgrade an Eiffel Tower second-floor ticket to the summit once inside?
No. You choose the destination when buying the ticket, and a second-floor ticket cannot be topped up with an additional summit ticket during the visit.
02Can I visit the Eiffel Tower if online lift tickets are sold out?
The official on-site ticket office can still sell tickets for immediate same-day use, subject to attendance. Last-minute stair tickets to the second floor are another possible option. Online lift tickets normally release sixty days ahead.
