Christophe Vasseur established the bakery in 2002, choosing the rue Yves Toudic premises for a bread-led project rooted in traditional craft. The room's old surfaces and the products behind the counter make the connection between place and baking unusually clear.
Bread at the centre of the bakery
Bread remains the centre of the business, alongside a focused range of pastries. The appeal is the work of the bakehouse rather than a vast display of interchangeable cakes. A loaf and a sweet pastry offer two different introductions: one to the everyday product around which the bakery is built, the other to the richer side of its morning counter.
The original shop and its neighbouring spaces
The business has expanded nearby without abandoning the original shop. La Table offers a dining space where bread informs the cooking, while the glass-walled Atelier makes production visible. Those neighbouring spaces extend the story, but the historic bakery remains a distinct visit in its own right, with its painted ceiling and patinated fittings.
This part of the 10th arrondissement gives the bakery a neighbourhood setting close to Canal Saint-Martin. The original shop works especially well as a focused food stop: looking at what has come from the ovens, choosing from the day's counter and taking something away. The substance is in the bread and the work behind it, with the building providing a memorable frame.
