01 / The experience

Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo · San Ángel

Look for the red-and-white studio, blue house, connecting bridge and cactus boundary: the buildings are as much a reason to visit as the artist’s working world inside. This is the San Ángel studio museum, separate from Casa Azul in Coyoacán; the two visits need different journeys and admissions.

Allow 60–90 minutes, with a smaller selection for children or anyone who tires on stairs. Start in the morning and ask staff which rooms and outdoor areas are open that day. Keep the museum as the main cultural stop, then reserve lunch nearby at San Ángel Inn. You can enjoy this pairing without waiting for Saturday’s market.

For a slower holiday, give Casa Azul its own Coyoacán day. Trying to fit both museums, the craft market and a long lunch into one outing leaves little room for traffic, queues or rest.
