2027 / Linked race journeys

Formula 1 Asia-Pacific Triple Header 2027: Melbourne, Suzuka & Shanghai

Three race weekends. Two journeys between them. Build a trip around Melbourne, Suzuka and Shanghai, with time in Japan between the races and a city stay before the Shanghai finale.

01 / The race sequence

Three weekends. One connected trip.

Race weekends run from 2 to 18 April. Allow roughly three weeks with arrival and departure days; the layovers below are suggested plans.

  1. Leg 1 Round 3

    Melbourne

    02–04 Apr 2027

Australian Grand Prix · Albert Park

Arrive before the opening sessions. Choose a Melbourne base with a practical Albert Park journey, then leave room for the transfer to your flight to Japan.

  2. Leg 2 Round 4

    Suzuka

    09–11 Apr 2027

Japanese Grand Prix · Suzuka Circuit

Move from your Kyoto stay to your race-weekend base before Friday. Choose the circuit journey alongside the hotel, especially for the trip back after Sunday’s race.

  3. Leg 3 Round 5

    Shanghai

    16–18 Apr 2027

Chinese Grand Prix · Shanghai International

Reach Shanghai before the opening sessions. Balance time in the city with the journey to Shanghai International Circuit, then plan your onward departure.

02 / Between the races

Make the days between count.

5–8 April · suggested layover

Melbourne → Kyoto → Suzuka

Use the first gap for Japan. Compare an arrival through Osaka with a Tokyo arrival plus onward rail; choose against your actual flight availability and Kyoto hotel check-in.

  1. Monday: travel from Melbourne to Japan. Allow for arrival formalities and the transfer to your hotel.
  2. Tuesday–Wednesday: use Kyoto as your base for temples, gardens and dining. Cherry-blossom timing varies; flowering is not guaranteed for these dates.
  3. Thursday: travel to your Nagoya or Suzuka base. The rail journey to Nagoya and the onward circuit transfer are separate legs.

Travelling light: ask Yamato and both hotels about luggage acceptance, collection deadlines and the delivery date before forwarding bags. Keep travel documents and overnight essentials with you.

12–15 April · suggested layover

Suzuka → Tokyo → Shanghai

Choose a Tokyo city break if it is part of the trip you want. Otherwise compare departures from the Nagoya area to Shanghai before adding a journey back to Tokyo.

  1. Monday–Tuesday: optional Tokyo stay after Suzuka. Include station-to-hotel transfers in the plan.
  2. Wednesday: suggested flight day to Shanghai, leaving a city day before the race weekend. Compare the actual airport pair and baggage allowance.
  3. Thursday: settle into Shanghai and plan the circuit journey. Hongqiao and Pudong are different arrival airports; choose a hotel transfer for the airport you book.

These are routing suggestions, not a flight timetable or a through-ticket. Check 2027 operating dates, connection protection and airport transfers before booking separate legs.

03 / Three borders

Check the whole journey before booking.

Requirements depend on your passport and route. Recheck official guidance before your 2027 departure.

Australia · choose by passport

Check the Australian visa pathway for your passport before booking. eVisitor (subclass 651) and ETA (subclass 601) have different eligibility rules; one application route does not cover every overseas visitor.

Japan · prepare arrival details

Visit Japan Web lets you register immigration and customs information and present the resulting code on arrival. It does not replace a visa where one is required.

China · check 240-hour transit eligibility

Eligible passport holders can use the 240-hour visa-free transit policy through designated ports, subject to permitted areas and confirmed onward travel to a third country or region. Japan → Shanghai → Japan is not a third-country transit route. Check your passport, port, onward ticket and permitted stay with the National Immigration Administration and your airline; do not assume admission.

04 / Put the trip together

Book the pieces in the right order.

Resolve entry eligibility first, then compare the flight chain, race access and hotel cancellation terms together. This is an independent planning guide; bookings are made separately with each provider.

Hotels · book each base

Compare Melbourne, Kyoto, the Suzuka race base, optional Tokyo and Shanghai as separate stays. Confirm arrival times, cancellation terms and luggage storage before committing to the flight chain.

Hospitality · match the edition

Check the 2027 event and exact days covered for each ticket. A hospitality purchase for one Grand Prix does not include the other races, intercity travel or hotels unless the seller explicitly lists them.

Connectivity & payments

Compare the country list for any regional eSIM against all three destinations, along with activation date, validity and roaming terms. Set up your preferred payment methods before departure and carry a backup; check foreign-card support and verification requirements directly with each wallet provider.

Compare the local options in each race guide. Check the edition shown when booking for 2027.
