01 / The experience

### One square, a hall full of food.

$ EUR estimate per person for picnic purchases. Quantities, weights and trader prices determine the total. Market produce, cheese & prepared food

The fountain at the crossing of Beauvau’s four aisles makes a good starting point. It belongs to the original market building and no longer runs with water, but it still marks the centre of a hall organised around food and the people selling it. Under the timber roof, the visit moves from one specialist counter to the next rather than along a single supermarket shelf.

#### Cheesemongers and neighbourhood traders

Cheese is a particular strength. Rounds, wedges and small individual cheeses fill the displays, with a cheesemonger able to cut a portion for a modest lunch as well as a larger purchase. Charcuterie, butchers, fishmongers and fruit-and-vegetable sellers give the hall its everyday purpose. A visitor carrying only a shopping bag can assemble bread accompaniments and fruit, while someone with a kitchen has a much wider choice of ingredients.

Several businesses have long neighbourhood connections. At the family butcher run by Florian Bocciarelli and his wife, sausages and pâtés are made on site; other counters specialise in oils, spices and groceries. That mixture is more interesting than treating the hall as a single attraction with one signature dish. The useful question is what looks ready to eat today, and what belongs in a kitchen rather than in a picnic bag.

#### The outdoor market and BO’s bakery

Outside, Place d’Aligre adds another market scene. Produce stalls and second-hand sellers occupy different parts of the surrounding space, with the covered hall’s low roof and clock tower helping to orient the walk. The outdoor stalls have their own morning rhythm; the hall can reopen in the afternoon on weekdays after its lunch closure.

[BO’s bakery](<https://above.guide/paris/things-to-do/boulangerie-bo-charenton>) on rue de Charenton makes a nearby continuation for bread or something sweet. From there, the planted promenade of the [Coulée verte](<https://above.guide/paris/things-to-do/coulee-verte-rene-dumont>) offers a different perspective on the district, above the streets around Bastille. Shopping at Beauvau gives that walk a food stop with a real neighbourhood setting, rather than an excuse to carry a full restaurant meal across town.
