      "title": "Musée Marmottan Monet",
      "description": "Impression, Sunrise gives Musée Marmottan Monet an extraordinary place in the story of Impressionism. The painting sits within a much wider Monet collection, taking the visitor from landscapes around Argenteuil and Rouen Cathedral towards the Water Lilies and views of Giverny. The interest is in seeing that range together, rather than treating a single famous canvas as the whole visit.\n\nThe collection grew through gifts from the painter's family and friends. It offers a particularly close view of work that remained connected with Monet's own circle, including paintings from his personal collection. That relationship makes the museum different from an encyclopaedic survey of French art: it has a strong concentration around particular artists and the people who preserved their work.\n\nBerthe Morisot is the other major reason to come. Her paintings, pastels and watercolours form an exceptional public collection, with portraits and scenes of everyday life providing another perspective on Impressionism. The two artists can therefore shape a focused visit without requiring the scale of a day in one of Paris' largest museums.\n\nThe building adds a further layer. Paul Marmottan's former mansion retains Empire-style decoration, and the museum also holds earlier paintings, sculpture and illuminated works. The contrast between those furnished historical rooms and the later art makes the house more than a neutral container for paintings.\n\nTemporary exhibitions extend the offer, while loans and room arrangements can change the works on view. The permanent collections remain the strongest basis for choosing the museum. In the residential streets near the Bois de Boulogne, it gives the art a more contained setting than a monumental palace museum, with Monet and Morisot supplying enough substance for a visit in their own right.",
