### Not a top ten.
A better day.

This isn't a ranked top-ten. It's a balanced spread across the things Oxford does best, so you can build a day that mixes grand architecture, world-class (and mostly free) museums, time on the water and a proper pub. Step inside any category in the 360° guide.

Choose one landmark, one interior, time outside and somewhere worth lingering.

Oxford / Built over time

The most quintessentially Oxford afternoon there is.

1. 01

   **Punt the Cherwell**

Self-drive or chauffeured punts from Magdalen Bridge Boathouse on the High, or the Cherwell Boathouse further north — the classic willow-lined stretch, and the only Oxford punting where you can pay someone else to do the work.

city exploration

#### Climb for the view

The 'dreaming spires' are best seen from above — three central climbs put the skyline at your feet.

1. 01

   **Tower of St Mary's**

On the High — arguably the best rooftop view, straight over the Radcliffe Camera and the quads.
2. 02

   **Carfax Tower**

A short climb at the central crossroads for a 360° view of the core.
3. 03

   **Sheldonian cupola**

#### Parks, meadows & gardens

Oxford is unusually green — and some of the best spire views are framed from its meadows.

1. 01

   **Port Meadow**

A vast, never-ploughed common by the Thames, grazed by free-roaming horses, with a riverside walk to the Trout Inn.
2. 02

   **Christ Church Meadow**

In the wedge between the two rivers, with tree-lined walks and some of the best framed views back at the spires.
3. 03

   **University Parks**

A manicured green lung a short walk from the Bodleian, bordered by the Cherwell.
4. 04

entertainment

#### Classic pubs & Oxford rituals

The living traditions and hidden pubs that make Oxford feel like Oxford.

1. 01

   **The Turf Tavern**

Low beams and three courtyards, reached down an alley off New College Lane — easy to walk past, and worth the detour to find.
2. 02

   **The Bear Inn**

A tiny, characterful traditional pub famous for its collection of snipped club and regimental ties.
3. 03

   **Covered Market**

A characterful warren of independent stalls and cafés — a good sheltered spot to browse and eat.
4. 04

   **Time it for a tradition**

May Morning (choristers sing from Magdalen Tower at 6am on 1 May) and Summer Eights (Trinity-term bumps racing on the Isis) are worth planning a visit around; check current dates.
