01 The experience

### What to expect.

### Why it matters

**It is the only place in Monaco showing contemporary art seriously.** The Oceanographic Museum is science, the Palace and cathedral are dynasty, the Car Collection is one prince's cars. This is the principality's art institution, and it programmes properly — Erik Bulatov, Yinka Shonibare, Helmut Newton, *Monacopolis* on the country's own architecture.

**It also holds Monaco's own heritage.** Including an extensive collection relating to **Kees van Dongen**, and the guardianship of works around the principality — the Calder now standing on Mareterra's Place Princesse Gabriella is in its care.

**€6, and free on Sundays, in Monaco.** Set that against €22.50 at the Oceanographic Museum. If you are under 26 it costs nothing at all, on any day.

**Two exhibitions a year means what is on changes completely.** This is not a permanent-collection museum you can describe once. Check what is showing before you go, because the building is the constant and the contents are not.

### What visitors should notice

**The villa itself.** These are belle époque houses, not purpose-built galleries, and the art is shown in domestic rooms with windows and views. That is a different experience from a white cube and it is the point of the place.

**The view from Villa Paloma.** It is on the same western heights as the Jardin Exotique, looking east over the principality.

**How quiet it is.** Monaco has visitors in enormous numbers and almost none of them come here.

**What is missing.** Villa Sauber is shut. If a guide, a map or a listing promises you two villas, it is out of date.

### Who will enjoy it

- Anyone who wants an hour of serious art in a country that mostly sells other things.
- **Anyone under 26** — it is free, and there is very little else free in Monaco.
- Sunday visitors, for the same reason.
- Visitors already going to the Jardin Exotique, which is a two-minute walk.
- People who like art shown in houses rather than in halls.

### Who may find it difficult

- **Villa Sauber is closed**, indefinitely, for renovation and extension.
- **Two exhibitions a year** means there is no permanent display to fall back on. If the current show does not interest you, there is nothing else.
- **It closes for the Grand Prix**, and on 1 January, 1 May, 19 November and 25 December.
- **Villa Paloma is on the heights** — uphill from the harbour, though well served by bus.
- **It is small.** An hour, not a morning.

### Visitor verdict

An hour, €6, and free on Sundays or if you are under 26. Go for whatever is currently at **Villa Paloma** — and pair it with the Jardin Exotique next door, which is the single most efficient two-stop combination in Monaco. **Do not plan around Villa Sauber**; it is a building site.

02

The story

### History & character.

### A museum with no museum building

The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco is unusual in shape: it is an institution without a purpose-built home. Instead it occupies **two belle époque villas** at opposite ends of a country two kilometres across, and shows **two exhibitions a year** between them.

That is a deliberate arrangement rather than a compromise. The villas are domestic buildings — rooms, windows, staircases, views — and showing contemporary art in them produces something different from a purpose-built gallery.

### Villa Paloma

**56 boulevard du Jardin Exotique**, on the western heights, immediately beside the Jardin Exotique.

**The museum began organising temporary exhibitions here in 2010**, and it is the villa that carries the programme today.

### Villa Sauber

**17 avenue Princesse Grace**, at the Larvotto end, among the last of the belle époque villas on that shore — the kind of building that once lined this coast and that Monaco has almost entirely replaced with towers.

**It is now closed for renovation and extension work**, with no published reopening date.

### What the museum is for

Two things at once, which is why its name contains both *national* and *nouveau*.

**Monaco's own heritage** — including an extensive collection relating to the painter **Kees van Dongen**, and guardianship of works around the principality. The Alexander Calder *Quatre lances* that now stands on Mareterra's Place Princesse Gabriella came into the museum's care in 2006, was taken down in 2007 and stored near Nice, and was finally re-erected in 2024 above a reflecting pool, as Calder had originally intended.

**And contemporary art** — a serious, outward-looking exhibition programme. Recent years have brought retrospectives of **Erik Bulatov** and **Yinka Shonibare**, a **Helmut Newton** exhibition in 2022, shows on ceramics and photography, and \***Monacopolis**\*, on the principality's own architecture and urbanism.

### Direction

**Marie-Claude Beaud** directed the museum from **2009 to 2021** — the period in which the two-villa model was established and Villa Paloma began its exhibition programme. **Björn Dahlström** was appointed in **2022**.

Look closer

### Highlights and hidden details.

The objects, spaces and small observations that turn a visit into a memorable one.

01

#### 1. Whatever is currently at Villa Paloma

**This is the museum.** Two exhibitions a year, no permanent display, so what you see depends entirely on when you come.

Currently: \***Victor Brauner, The Magical Adventure**\*, 3 July 2026 to 3 January 2027 — the Romanian-French surrealist, in a villa on a Monaco hillside.

**Check before you travel.** Between shows there may be nothing on at all.

02

#### 2. Art shown in a house

Villa Paloma is a **belle époque villa**, not a gallery. The exhibitions occupy domestic rooms — with windows, staircases, cornices and views out.

**That changes how the work reads.** A painting in a room with a window onto the Mediterranean is doing something a painting in a white box is not, and the museum programmes knowing it.

03

#### 3. The price

**€6.** In Monaco.

**Free every Sunday.** **Free to anyone under 26**, on any day. Free to students, to Monégasques, to job seekers with proof, and to people with disabilities.

Set that against **€22.50** at the Oceanographic Museum, **€30** for the Sheldonian-equivalent tours elsewhere in this set, or the price of a coffee on the Place du Casino. **This is the best-value serious culture in the principality** and almost nobody knows it.

04

#### 4. The Jardin Exotique, two minutes away

**Villa Paloma is number 56. The Jardin Exotique is number 62.** Same boulevard, shared car park.

**Together they are the best half-day in Monaco for the money**: €12 for the garden with the Observatory Cave and Botanical Centre, €6 for the museum — and **€12 total on a Sunday**, when the museum is free.

They are never listed together, because one is a garden and one is an art museum. Take the same bus and do both.

05

#### 5. The Kees van Dongen collection

The museum holds an **extensive collection relating to Kees van Dongen**, the Fauvist who painted the Riviera's society between the wars.

**It is not permanently on show** — this is a two-exhibitions-a-year museum — but it is the heart of what the institution actually owns, and it surfaces in the programme.

06

#### 6. The Calder it looks after

\**Alexander Calder's*Quatre lances\***stands on**Place Princesse Gabriella at Mareterra**, at the far eastern end of the principality — and it has been in the NMNM's care since**2006\*\*.

It was taken down in **2007**, stored near Nice for years, and finally re-erected in **December 2024** above a reflecting pool, as Calder had intended from the start.

**You cannot see it here.** But the museum whose ticket costs €6 is the reason the principality's best piece of public sculpture is standing.

07

#### 7. Villa Sauber — for when it returns

**17 avenue Princesse Grace**, among the last belle époque villas on the Larvotto shore, in a quarter Monaco has otherwise rebuilt in towers.

**Closed for renovation and extension**, with no published reopening date.

Worth knowing about, worth not travelling to, and worth checking again in a year — because when it reopens the museum doubles.

Beyond the obvious

#### Details worth slowing down for.

01

#### Half the museum is a building site

The NMNM is two villas, and **Villa Sauber is closed for renovation and extension**. The institution is running at half capacity and there is no published date for the other half returning.

Almost every listing still describes two visitable venues.

02

#### It is free if you are under 26

Not reduced. **Free.** Any day, no conditions beyond age.

In a country where a beach club lounger costs more than a museum ticket anywhere else in Europe, Monaco's art museum admits everyone under 26 for nothing — and says so quietly enough that hardly anybody knows.

03

#### And free to everyone on Sundays

**Every Sunday, no charge.** Not the first Sunday of the month, which is the usual arrangement. Every one.

04

#### Job seekers get in free

The free list includes **job seekers, on production of proof**. It is an unusual category to find on a Monégasque tariff, and it is worth noting for what it says about how the museum sees itself.

05

#### There is nothing permanent to see

Two exhibitions a year, and no standing display. **The museum you visit in March and the museum you visit in October are different museums**, and between shows there may be nothing at all.

That is why this page tells you to check first, and why no guide can usefully describe "what's inside".

06

#### It is next door to the Jardin Exotique and nobody pairs them

**Villa Paloma is 56 boulevard du Jardin Exotique. The garden is number 62.** They share a car park. The museum's own directions tell you to park at the garden.

They are never listed together because one is horticulture and one is contemporary art — so the single most efficient two-stop trip in Monaco goes almost entirely unmade.

07

#### The art is shown in rooms, not halls

Both villas are **belle époque houses**. Exhibitions occupy domestic spaces — windows, staircases, views out over the principality.

**Villa Sauber is one of the last of its kind** on the Larvotto shore, where the belle époque villas have otherwise been replaced by towers.

08

#### It looks after the Calder at the other end of the country

*Quatre lances* on Mareterra has been in the museum's care since **2006**. Down in **2007**, stored near Nice, back up in **December 2024** above a reflecting pool — as Calder had wanted in the first place, and which the original 1966 installation never gave him.

A €6 museum on the western heights is the reason the best public sculpture in Monaco is standing at the eastern end.

09

#### It shuts for the Grand Prix

Along with 1 January, 1 May, 19 November and 25 December. An art museum on a hillside, half a principality from the circuit, closes for the race — which tells you how completely the event takes the country over.

### Check this first

**Only one of the two villas is open.**

| | Status |
| --- | --- |
| **Villa Paloma**, 56 boulevard du Jardin Exotique | **OPEN** — showing *Victor Brauner, The Magical Adventure*, 3 July 2026 to 3 January 2027 |
| **Villa Sauber**, 17 avenue Princesse Grace | **CLOSED** for renovation and extension work. No reopening date published |

A great many listings still present the NMNM as two venues you can visit. **Do not travel to Villa Sauber.**

**And check what is showing.** The museum runs **two exhibitions a year** and has no permanent display on view. The building is the constant; the contents are not.

### What it costs

**This is the cheapest serious museum in Monaco.** €6 against €22.50 at the Oceanographic Museum, and nothing at all if you are under 26 or if it is Sunday.

### Opening hours

**Daily, 10:00–18:00.**

**July and August: 11:00–19:00.**

**Last admission is 30 minutes before closing.**

**Closed on:** 1 January, 1 May, **the Grand Prix days**, 19 November and 25 December.

### Guided tours

**No reservation needed** for the scheduled tours:

- **Thursdays at 12:30**, in July and August

**€6 per person on top of admission** — free for children under 13 and for school groups.

Group tours run daily by advance booking.

### Getting to Villa Paloma

**56 boulevard du Jardin Exotique**, on the western heights. **+377 98 98 48 60.**

**By bus**: lines **2, 3 and 5**.

**By car**: park at **L'Engelin** or at the **Jardin Exotique** — the museum shares the garden's parking, which tells you how close they are.

**On foot** it is a climb from the harbour. Take the bus up.

### The pairing that makes the trip worth it

**Villa Paloma is at number 56. The Jardin Exotique is at number 62.**

They are neighbours on the same boulevard, they share a car park, and between them they cost **€18** — €12 for the garden with the Observatory Cave and the Botanical Centre, €6 for the museum, or **€12 total on a Sunday** when the museum is free.

**One bus up the hill, two attractions, half a day.** It is the most efficient combination in Monaco and essentially nobody makes it, because the two are never listed together.

### How long to allow

- **The exhibition**: 45 minutes to an hour. It is one villa, not a wing of the Louvre.
- **With a guided tour**: 90 minutes.
- **With the Jardin Exotique next door**: half a day.

05

Visit your way

### Access and family planning.

Accessibility guide

### What is established

**Entry is free for people with disabilities.** That is stated plainly in the museum's own admissions.

**What is not stated** is anything about the building. And that matters here more than usual, because **Villa Paloma is a belle époque villa converted to gallery use** — a house with a staircase, not a purpose-built museum with a lift designed in.

### The gap, and why it is the important one

**No step-free access information is published**: not for the entrance, not between floors, not for the exhibition rooms.

**Lift access is not confirmed.** Contact the museum before travelling to check which galleries you can reach without stairs.

**Telephone Villa Paloma on +377 98 98 48 60 before travelling** if step-free access decides your visit. It is a small institution with a single public number and a professional staff — this is an answerable question, and a short call beats a wasted climb up the hill.

### Getting there

**Villa Paloma is on the western heights** — the same hill as the Jardin Exotique, and uphill from everywhere.

**Buses 2, 3 and 5** serve it, which is the sensible arrival.

**Parking is at L'Engelin or at the Jardin Exotique**, and the museum's own directions point you at the garden's car park. That is useful: it is close, and it is the arrangement to use if you are driving.

**Do not walk up from the harbour** if gradients are difficult. It is a long, steep climb.

### Villa Sauber

**Closed for renovation and extension work.**

Worth one observation: a renovation *and extension* of a historic villa in 2026 is precisely the circumstance in which access is normally designed in. **When it reopens, its accessibility should be re-checked from scratch** rather than assumed to match Villa Paloma's.

### Sensory notes

**Quiet.** This is among the least-visited attractions in Monaco, and a weekday hour here is close to solitary.

**Small.** One villa, one exhibition — there is no risk of becoming lost or overwhelmed by scale.

**Variable.** Contemporary art exhibitions can include sound, video, low light or enclosed installations, and the programme changes twice a year. **What is comfortable in one show may not be in the next**, so ask at the desk if any of that matters.

### Facts we do not have

- Step-free entry to Villa Paloma.
- A lift between floors.
- Accessible toilet provision.
- Hearing loops.
- Large-print or audio interpretation.
- Assistance dog policy.
- Whether the guided tours are accessible.

**All unpublished rather than confirmed absent**, and all answerable by one call. Given that the museum admits disabled visitors free, the omission of any access statement is more likely an oversight than a signal.

Family guide

### The price is the headline

**Free for anyone under 26.** Free for school groups. **Free for everyone on Sundays.** Full adult admission is **€6**.

A family of four with two teenagers pays **€12** on a weekday and **nothing** on a Sunday. There is no other cultural attraction in Monaco that comes close.

### Be honest about what it is

**This is a contemporary art exhibition in a villa, and it changes twice a year.** There is no permanent display, no interactive gallery, no dinosaurs and no aquarium.

Whether it works for your children depends entirely on **what is currently showing** — and that is genuinely worth checking, because the museum's programme has ranged from Helmut Newton photography to an architecture show about Monaco itself.

Currently: \***Victor Brauner, The Magical Adventure**\* to 3 January 2027. A surrealist, which for the right child is a much easier sell than most art.

### Ages

- **Under 6**: an hour in a quiet villa with pictures. It will depend on the child and on the show.
- **7–12**: works if the exhibition has something to look at rather than read. Surrealism generally does.
- **Teenagers**: **free**, and this is the one place in Monaco doing something they might actually recognise as culture rather than wealth.
- **Under 26 generally**: free, so there is no reason not to look.

### The guided tours are cheap and free for young children

**Saturdays 11:00, Sundays 15:00**, and **Thursdays 12:30 in July and August**. No reservation needed.

**€6 per person on top of admission — but free for children under 13** and for school groups.

A guided hour is usually the difference between a child engaging with a contemporary art show and walking through it.

### The combination that makes the trip

**The Jardin Exotique is two minutes away**, at number 62 on the same boulevard.

**Do the garden first** — 30,000 cacti on a cliff and a cave 300 steps down are an easier sell than an art exhibition — and use the museum as the quiet hour afterwards. Same bus, shared car park.

That pairing turns a small museum into a genuine half-day.

### Practical

- **One villa, one show.** Allow 45 minutes to an hour.
- **Bus 2, 3 or 5** up the hill. Walking up from the harbour with children is a mistake.
- **Villa Sauber is closed** — do not promise anyone two villas.
- **Closed for the Grand Prix**, 1 January, 1 May, 19 November and 25 December.
- **Sunday is free**, and Sunday afternoons have a 15:00 guided tour.

### A half-day that works

Bus up → Jardin Exotique, cave tour at 10:00 or 11:00 → picnic → Villa Paloma for the exhibition, or the 15:00 tour if it is Sunday → walk down into Fontvieille for the free flat parks.

06

Self-guided walk

### Explore beyond the venue.

A practical, step-by-step route connecting this experience with more of Monaco Grand Prix.

01

#### 1. Check two things before you leave

**What is on**, and **whether it is a Sunday**.

The museum shows **two exhibitions a year and has no permanent display**. There is no "collection" to fall back on. Currently: \***Victor Brauner, The Magical Adventure**\*, to 3 January 2027.

**On Sundays it is free** — and there is a **guided tour at 15:00**.

**And do not go to Villa Sauber.** The NMNM's other villa, at the Larvotto end, is closed for renovation and extension. Listings still send people there.

02

#### 2. Take the bus up

**Lines 2, 3 or 5** to boulevard du Jardin Exotique. Driving, park at **L'Engelin** or at the **Jardin Exotique**.

**Do not walk up from the harbour.** It is a long climb and you will arrive with the morning light gone off the view.

03

#### 3. Do the garden first — number 62

**The Jardin Exotique is four doors up the same boulevard.**

Thirty thousand succulents on a cliff, the best view in Monaco, and the **Grotte de l'Observatoire** beneath it — hourly guided tours from 10:00, 300 steps down and 300 up.

**Take the 10:00 or 11:00 cave slot**, walk the garden either side of it, and eat in the picnic area.

**Doing it in this order matters.** The garden is exposed and east-facing, so it wants the morning; the museum is indoors and does not care.

04

#### 4. Walk four doors down to number 56

**Villa Paloma.**

You are arriving at a **belle époque house**, not a gallery. Notice that before you go in: this is a villa on a hillside with a view, and the museum has put contemporary art inside it rather than building a box.

05

#### 5. Inside — look at the rooms as much as the work

**The rooms are the reason this museum is different.** Cornices, tall windows, staircases, and Mediterranean light falling across whatever is installed in them.

A work in a room with a window onto the principality is doing something a work in a white cube is not, and the programme is chosen knowing it.

**Ask about photography at the desk.** The policy belongs to the exhibition rather than the building, and loan conditions change with every show.

06

#### 6. If it is Saturday, Sunday or a summer Thursday, take the tour

**Saturdays 11:00, Sundays 15:00, Thursdays 12:30 in July and August.** No reservation needed.

**€6 on top of admission, free for under-13s and school groups.**

In a museum with no permanent display and no wall of context, an hour with a guide is usually the difference between seeing the show and understanding it.

07

#### 7. Before you leave, remember where the Calder is

Not here. \**Alexander Calder's*Quatre lances*stands on Place Princesse Gabriella at Mareterra**, at the far eastern end of the country — and it has been in this museum's care since**2006*\*.

Down in 2007, stored near Nice for years, and finally re-erected in **December 2024** above a reflecting pool, as Calder had intended from the start.

**A €6 museum on this hillside is the reason Monaco's best public sculpture is standing.** If your week takes you to Mareterra, that is the connection.

08

#### 8. Walk down, not back

**Downhill into Fontvieille** — flat free parks, sculpture, and the quarter built out of the sea in 1966. Or on round the Rock to the harbour.

Nothing up here needs a second visit in one day, and the descent is the easy part.

09

#### Timing

- **The museum alone**: 45 minutes to an hour.
- **With the guided tour**: 90 minutes.
- **With the Jardin Exotique**: half a day, and the best-value half-day in Monaco.

**Sunday morning is the optimum**: garden first, museum free, 15:00 tour.

**Never during the Grand Prix** — both are closed.

07

Make a record

### Photograph it thoughtfully.

### Ask first, and expect the answer to be no

**This is a temporary-exhibition museum, and photography policy belongs to the exhibition rather than to the building.**

Works on loan from other institutions and from private collections routinely come with conditions that prohibit photography entirely, and a museum showing two loan-based exhibitions a year will have different rules for each.

**Ask at the desk on arrival.** Do not assume that a policy you met on a previous visit still applies — the show will have changed.

**Never photograph a work in a way that could be published as a reproduction.** Copyright in contemporary art sits with living artists and their estates, and a €6 ticket is not a licence.

### The villa is the photograph

Where photography is permitted, **the subject worth having is not the art — it is the art in a house**.

Villa Paloma is a **belle époque villa**: rooms with cornices, tall windows, staircases, and views out over the principality. Contemporary work installed in domestic space, with Mediterranean light coming through a window onto it, is the thing that makes this museum distinctive and it is what a photograph should show.

**Frame the room, not just the wall.**

### The exterior and the setting

**The villa from the boulevard**, and the view east from the heights it stands on.

**Morning** puts the light on the view; the hillside goes into its own shadow later in the day, exactly as the Jardin Exotique next door does.

The garden at number 62 is two minutes away and has the better viewpoint if the panorama is what you are after.

### Light

- **Morning** for the view east and for the villa's east-facing rooms.
- **Interiors are lit for conservation**, which usually means low and often means tungsten or LED with a strong colour cast. Expect to correct white balance.
- **No flash**, anywhere, ever, in a room with loaned art.

### Practical

- **A fast lens beats a tripod.** Tripods are unlikely to be permitted in a small villa with narrow rooms and other visitors.
- **Watch reflections.** Framed and glazed work in a room with tall windows is mostly a study in avoiding your own reflection.

### Courtesy

It is a small, quiet museum where a photographer is conspicuous. The guided tours on Saturdays, Sundays and summer Thursdays fill the rooms briefly — work around them rather than through them.

### Drones

**No.** Prohibited in Monaco, and this is a residential hillside.

Good to know

### Questions, answered.

01 Is the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco open?

**Half of it.** The NMNM runs two villas:

- **Villa Paloma**, 56 boulevard du Jardin Exotique — **OPEN**
- **Villa Sauber**, 17 avenue Princesse Grace — **CLOSED for renovation and extension work**, with no published reopening date

03 Is it really free if you're under 26?

**Yes — free, not reduced, on any day.** It is the best cultural offer in Monaco for anyone that age and it is barely advertised.

04 What are the opening hours?

**Daily 10:00–18:00**, and **11:00–19:00 in July and August**. **Last admission is 30 minutes before closing.**

**Closed** on 1 January, 1 May, **the Grand Prix days**, 19 November and 25 December.

05 What is currently showing?

\***Victor Brauner, The Magical Adventure***at Villa Paloma,**3 July 2026 to 3 January 2027*\*.

**Always check before travelling.** The museum shows **two exhibitions a year** and has **no permanent display**, so between shows there may be nothing on.

06 Is there a permanent collection on display?

**No.** The museum owns a great deal — including an extensive collection relating to **Kees van Dongen** — but it programmes two temporary exhibitions a year and does not maintain a standing display. Anything describing "the collection" as something you can go and see is misleading.

07 Are there guided tours?

**Yes, and no reservation is needed**: **Saturdays 11:00**, **Sundays 15:00**, and **Thursdays 12:30 in July and August**.

**€6 per person on top of admission**, free for children under 13 and for school groups. Group tours run daily by advance booking.

08 Where is Villa Paloma and how do I get there?

**56 boulevard du Jardin Exotique**, on the western heights. **+377 98 98 48 60.**

**Buses 2, 3 and 5.** By car, park at **L'Engelin** or at the **Jardin Exotique**. It is a long uphill walk from the harbour — take the bus.

09 Can I combine it with anything?

**Yes, and this is the best tip on the page.** **The Jardin Exotique is at number 62 on the same boulevard** — four doors up, sharing a car park.

Garden **€12** (or €18 with the Observatory Cave and Botanical Centre), museum **€6** — and **€12 total on a Sunday** when the museum is free. One bus, half a day.

10 Why is Villa Sauber closed?

**Renovation and extension work.** No reopening date is published. It is one of the last belle époque villas on the Larvotto shore.

11 Is it wheelchair accessible?

**Entry is free for people with disabilities**, but **no step-free access information is published** — and Villa Paloma is a converted belle époque villa, which is precisely the building type where that question matters.

**Telephone +377 98 98 48 60 before travelling** if it decides your visit.

12 How long do I need?

**45 minutes to an hour** for the exhibition; **90 minutes** with a guided tour; **half a day** if you add the Jardin Exotique.

13 What is the museum's connection to the Calder at Mareterra?

\**Alexander Calder's*Quatre lances\***on Place Princesse Gabriella has been in the NMNM's care since**2006**. It was taken down in 2007, stored near Nice, and re-erected in**December 2024\*\* above a reflecting pool, as Calder originally intended.

You cannot see it at the museum — it stands outdoors at the opposite end of the principality.

14 Is it worth visiting?

For **€6** — or nothing on a Sunday or under 26 — yes, if the current show interests you. It is the only place in Monaco taking contemporary art seriously, it is almost always empty, and it is four doors from the Jardin Exotique.

But it is **one villa and one exhibition**. Check what is on first.

### Method

**Operating status was checked before anything else**, as for every bundle since the Chapelle de la Visitation.

It found the story again: **Villa Sauber, half the institution, is closed for renovation and extension**, while listings continue to describe the NMNM as two visitable venues.

**The museum's own site was then treated as the primary source throughout** — for the closure, the hours, the tariff and the free categories. Where an aggregator disagreed, the aggregator was found to be describing a superseded exhibition.

### Where sources disagree

#### The current exhibition — RESOLVED, and it illustrates the risk

**S04**, retrieved the same day, gave the current show at Villa Paloma as \***Le Sentiment de la Nature. L'art contemporain au miroir de Poussin***,**13 February to 25 May 2026**, with Victor Brauner listed as*forthcoming\*.

**S01 and S02, the museum's own pages, give Victor Brauner as current**, running **3 July 2026 to 3 January 2027**.

**Used: S01/S02.** The dates settle it — 25 May 2026 has passed and 3 July 2026 has not.

**This is the bundle's own warning made concrete.** The museum shows **two exhibitions a year with no permanent display**, so the "what is on" fact decays within months, and an aggregator that is otherwise accurate had already fallen a show behind. It is why ` recheck_cadence_months ` is set to **3**, the tightest in the Monaco set, and why every chapter tells the reader to check before travelling.

#### Villa Sauber — RESOLVED FROM THE OPERATOR

Listings and regional tourism pages continue to describe the NMNM as **two venues to visit**. **S01 and S02 state plainly that Villa Sauber is closed for renovation and extension work.**

**Used: closed.** No reopening date is published anywhere, and the bundle says so rather than estimating.

### A note on a second, quieter conflict

**S03 does not give the museum's founding date**, and this bundle does not assert one.

It would have been easy to infer a founding from "Villa Paloma began organising temporary exhibitions in 2010", but that is the date the *programme* started at *one villa*, not the date the institution was created — and the NMNM's name (*nouveau*) implies a predecessor whose relationship to it is not established here.

**Recorded as not asserted** rather than reasoned into a number.

### Facts deliberately not asserted

| Fact | Where this guide says so |
| --- | --- |
| **Any reopening date for Villa Sauber** | Overview, Plan your visit, FAQ, operational data |
| **The museum's founding date** | History — the 2010 date is given as when Villa Paloma's programme began, and nothing more |
| **Step-free entry to Villa Paloma** | Accessibility, FAQ, operational data |
| A lift between floors | Accessibility |
| Accessible toilets | Accessibility |
| Hearing loops, large-print or audio interpretation | Accessibility |
| The assistance-dog policy | Accessibility |
| Whether the guided tours are accessible | Accessibility |
| The photography policy | Photography — it belongs to each exhibition, not the building |
| Architectural dates for either villa | History |

**The accessibility gaps are the consequential ones.** The museum admits people with disabilities **free**, which makes the complete absence of any access statement look like an oversight rather than a signal — but it is unpublished, and **Villa Paloma is a converted belle époque villa**, exactly the building type where the question decides a visit.

**One telephone call to +377 98 98 48 60 answers all of them.** The accessibility chapter says so rather than leaving them as a generic list.

## Venue visitor information

| Detail | Information |
| --- | --- |
| Title | Nouveau Musée National de Monaco |
| Status | published |
| Description | The NMNM is the principality's museum of contemporary art and of its own heritage, and it has no purpose-built home. It occupies two belle époque villas at opposite ends of a country two kilometres across, and shows two exhibitions a year between them, alternating contemporary installation and retrospective. Villa Paloma, at 56 boulevard du Jardin Exotique on the western heights, is open — currently showing Victor Brauner, The Magical Adventure, to 3 January 2027. Villa Sauber, at 17 avenue Princesse Grace by Larvotto, is closed for renovation and extension work with no published reopening date. A great many listings still describe the museum as two venues you can visit. The pricing is the other story. Full admission is €6 — against €22.50 at the Oceanographic Museum — and it is free every Sunday, not merely the first of the month. It is free outright, on any day, to anyone under 26, to students, to Monégasque citizens, to job seekers with proof and to people with disabilities. It is the cheapest serious culture in Monaco by a wide margin and it is barely advertised. The art hangs in domestic rooms with cornices, tall windows and views out over the principality, which is a different proposition from a white cube and is the point of the place. The museum also cares for Alexander Calder's Quatre lances, standing since December 2024 on Place Princesse Gabriella at Mareterra, at the far end of the country. And Villa Paloma is at number 56 while the Jardin Exotique is at number 62 — four doors up the same boulevard, sharing a car park. Together they are the best half-day in Monaco, and almost nobody makes the combination. |
| Why Visit | The only place in Monaco showing contemporary art seriously — €6, free every Sunday, free to anyone under 26, in a belle époque villa four doors from the Jardin Exotique. |

| Is the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco open? | Half of it. Villa Paloma, at 56 boulevard du Jardin Exotique, is open. Villa Sauber, at 17 avenue Princesse Grace, is closed for renovation and extension work with no published reopening date — though many listings still describe both as visitable. |
| How much does it cost? | €6 full price, €4 for groups of 15 or more. Free every Sunday, and free on any day for anyone under 26, students and school groups, Monégasque citizens, ICOM and CIMAM members, job seekers with proof, and people with disabilities. |

| Is it wheelchair accessible? | Entry is free for people with disabilities, but no step-free access information is published at all — and Villa Paloma is a converted belle époque villa, which is exactly the building type where that matters.
