**Founded 1885.** Founded in 1885 as the Cambridge Training College for Women Teachers, it was renamed in honour of its first Principal, Elizabeth Phillips Hughes, and gained full college status in 2006 as Cambridge's oldest graduate college.

The core is William Fawcett's purpose-built red-brick building of 1895, which overlooks Fenner's cricket ground and remains the main college building, now ringed by modern residential courts including Gresham Court.
